What is Pain Management Massage?
Pain Management is a more technical bodywork session, intended to discover the root-cause of pain. It uses a detective-style approach to find the ‘players’ contributing to your issue. Techniques are aimed at helping your body and brain change how they’ve been orienting to chronic postures, injury, pain, and stress, to one of ease of movement and a higher level of functioning in the body and nervous system.
Why might I need Pain Management?
If you have tried regular massage, even deep tissue, or other treatment modalities with mediocre or short-lived results, it might be time to try a clinical approach that helps awaken somatic awareness.
Who Can Pain Management Benefit?
Pain Management (PM) can be helpful for pain resulting from:
- Repetitive motion such as typing, using tools, playing an instrument
- Limited range of motion, feeling stiff, less ‘fluid’ or mobile
- Chronic postures such as sitting at a desk, sleeping on one side, driving
- Compensations that developed after an injury and created new issues
- Injuries that have physically healed but pain keeps recurring
PM can also be useful for anyone experiencing:
- Pain that is mostly triggered by stressful events or chronic stress
- Pain that does not seem to have a traceable or plausible cause
Your Pain Management Session
During your PM session at Applied Somatic Therapy (AST), your therapist will use techniques customized for your specific needs, to discover and address the root-cause of your pain or issue. These typically entail an analysis of postural and movement patterns/range-of-motion to identify areas of restriction, stretches, and MyoFascial Release, which can include active movement release and trigger point therapy, as well as Integrative Resources (IR). IR are customized adjustments, somatic exercises, and techniques taught to reduce or prevent further injury or to re-pattern the subconscious adaptations that your brain has created that inhibit your progress. This enhances your progress by facilitating changes that come from within and continue outside of the treatment room, which is the hallmark of Applied Somatic Therapy.
Why Choose AST?
Our bodyworkers have over 30 years of knowledge and expertise; having worked on tons of bodies experiencing chronic and acute issues. In addition to her advanced training with leaders in the field, Adelyn Botto’s proficiency has been enhanced by the embodiment of her own pain and injury. She has experienced injuries ranging in nature from lifting heavy objects incorrectly, bike and auto accidents, slip and falls, sports injuries, to chronic issues that built up over time from scrolling on her phone, leaning on the console in her car, sleeping on one side, and not always using proper form while working out. Because Adelyn has maintained movement and other practices that foster an awakened sense of her Self/Body, including receiving massage, she perceives issues that arise through a Somatic lens. This combination helps her to partner with clients in addressing their concerns.
